Casino Trends, Technology-wise
The future has already arrived in many casinos.
Some casinos have games that are almost 'virtual reality'. These machines are so real that it is extremely difficult for people to stop enjoying themselves.
In addition, many of the games are now being played on video machines which are addictive to casino gamblers.
Touch-screen technology has now been introduced into the casino industry. These touch-screens were first introduced into the gaming industry in 1990 as a part of the video lottery terminals.
Later, other states also approved video lotteries. Now the transition has been completely made directly in the casinos. It is now possible to play a number of games by touching the screen.
In a recent study, more than 90 percent of the participants showed a preference to starting out their games by using touch instead of the traditional button.
These machines will also become more popular to manufacturers, because they will enable a variety of games to be played on one machine.
The technology is already in place to experiment with on-flight gambling thirty thousand feet in the air.
In the very near future, it will be possible to engage gambling on a video screen, and play lap-top versions of slot machines and other casino games.
Flyers will be able to access a video screen with their credit cards, which would enable them to gamble using a touch-screen.
This type of interactive entertainment will probably be implemented only on three-hour or longer domestic and international flights. . Presently, they are already playing a significant role in gaming. They have become invaluable in producing both internal and external reports. These reports also help to keep track of large cash transactions.
Also, they will become more valuable in providing and maintaining credit records which could be transferred to selected properties.
Computers and their related technology will also become essential in maintaining ship-to-shore interface for the new super cruise liners and the new riverboats.
The last 'mega' casino-hotels have set a trend. When one thinks of MGM, Luxor, Treasure island, and the Mirage, the first thought is not of gambling, but Disney, and ancient Egypt, respectively.
Afterwards, we think of gambling in these edifices. Newer casinos, be they in Nevada, Atlantic City, or any part of the world, must compete with these types of imagery.
Computers will perhaps play the most revolutionary role in the changing face of the casino industry of the future.
Casinos, by that time, will not be able to operate without a computer mainframe. So will be the casinos' structural design, and these somehow inspire people to drop by as often as they want to.
